Come Try Ringette in Mississauga on September 11, 2011

There's a great alternative to hockey for girls - Ringette.  No, not gym ringette, but the version played on ice.  Have a player under 10 years old?  On September 11, give ringette a try at Mississauga Ringette Association`s Come Try Ringette event at Iceland Arena, Rink 4.

This is a great opportunity for young players to learn to skate, develop team building skills and begin to enjoy a fast paced sport. (Want to see ringette now? See below for list of links to videos)

Schedule for Sept 11, 2011:

• 3:15pm-4:15pm Players under 7 years, get on the ice and try Ringette
• 4:15pm-5:15pm Watch an Exhibition game by players from the U12 (Petite) Provincial team
• 5:15-6:15 pm Players under 10 years on-ice session to try Ringette

The MRA Ringette / Learn To Skate program is more cost effective than most Learn To Skate programs.  Youngsters are motivated to learn skating skills because they get to use them in a game.

When our younger daughter, was in learn-to-skate programs, she didn't want to learn to stop properly.  To stop, it was more fun to sit down and slide in to boards or snow bank if outside.  Put a stick in her hand and, well, she had to learn to stop standing up or she couldn't change directions to get the ring.  The rest is history and she now plays U16 AA ringette.

With a ring instead of a puck, players change direction often and quickly. Ringette's the fastest game on ice!

Canada Winter Games 2011 Round Robin Game - Ontario vs BC

Canada Winter Games 2011 Gold Medal Game - Ontario vs Alberta.  Ontario won in overtime 8-7.  Video snippets of key plays and goals from the game:
