"Pay Now" Definitely Not Working on myRogers.com

Since August, I have been successfully downloading and paying my Rogers bill online.  As of late last week, this feature is not working, and it is still not working today.

Upon contacting Rogers on the weekend, they asked which browser I was using.  Chrome.  They advised me to use IE.  Well, I'm using a Macbook, so IE is not an option.

They said turn off anti-virus.  Well, there isn't any anti-virus runing on my mac.  In any case, I've been paying my Rogers bill using the Macbook since August.  Other than keep up to date with critical updates, no operating system upgrade.

I then did try to use on a Windows Vista machine with IE.  Paying the bill online using that machine didn't work either

Then tried on a Windows 8.1 machine, on another network, and did not work either.

[ Yes, I am a bit persistent. ]

So Rogers, here are all the screenshots.

When clicking on any of the "Pay Now" buttons, whether the new red button or the old blue text link in the legacy design, the "???????" window pops up as in:

By the way, it's always 6 question marks.

Here are screenshots from the Windows 8.1 machine, on 3 browsers - IE, Firefox and Chrome.  The browsers are all up to date.  Windows 8.1 is up to date.

Here are screenshots from Macbook with OSX Lion 10.8.5.

It would be more convenient not having to go the extra step and log into my online banking account to pay my Rogers bill online, after reviewed my Rogers monthly bill.

That seems to be the way to go for now, or set bill download via ePost.

Rogers, please fix "Pay Now".

Thank you.

Availability of Mobile Data "Daily Usage" Report Has Disappeared from myRogers.com

Dear Rogers,

Please reinstate the Daily Usage online report for mobile data usage on myRogers.com.

According to Rogers online support, the daily usage online on-demand report is still available.

But this is all we get.

If trying to troubleshoot an overage, it would be helpful to know if the overage was spread out over the month or due to a few days of high usage.

With "Share Everything" plans, this type of diagnostic is very helpful.

What did it used to look like?

Sort of like this:

I realize that I can wait until the monthly bill and get it then.  But we used to be able to get this info before.  Please bring it back.

"Return to Learning" Concussion Guidelines Emerging

With return to physical activity and game play after a concussion injury fairly well established in practice, it's only now being recognized that there might need to be a separate "Return to Learning" concussion protocol.

At this time, clear guidelines do not exist. The American Academy of Pediatrics published a clinical report in October 2013 discussing the need for "return to learning" guidelines. Here's their abstract:
Following a concussion, it is common for children and adolescents to experience difficulties in the school setting. Cognitive difficulties, such as learning new tasks or remembering previously learned material, may pose challenges in the classroom. The school environment may also increase symptoms with exposure to bright lights and screens or noisy cafeterias and hallways. Unfortunately, because most children and adolescents look physically normal after a concussion, school officials often fail to recognize the need for academic or environmental adjustments. Appropriate guidance and recommendations from the pediatrician may ease the transition back to the school environment and facilitate the recovery of the child or adolescent. This report serves to provide a better understanding of possible factors that may contribute to difficulties in a school environment after a concussion and serves as a framework for the medical home, the educational home, and the family home to guide the student to a successful and safe return to learning.
Some caution has been advised.  Overall, although unclear and still confusing, this is a definite step forward.

Return to Play Concussion Protocol

Concussion knowledge and recovery practice is growing all the time and that's great.

The Sports Concussion Assessment Tool (SCAT) has evolved to SCAT3 (pdf) and there's even a SCAT3 for kids 5 years old to 12 years old.  A great central resource about concussions and concussion recovery is ThinkFirst.ca, where you can also download a pocket version guide for Concussion Recognition.

That's the assessment side.  What about recovery?

ThinkFirst has a 2-page PDF summarizing the Return to Play concussion protocol, which they have created from  the Zurich Guidelines outlined in the Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport.  These return to play guidelines have been reviewed by the highly qualified ThinkFirst Concussion Education and Awareness Committee (visit this page and scroll down to see the members).

Post-Concussion Return to Play Steps (more detail):

  1. No activity, only complete rest
  2. Light aerobic exercise
  3. Sport specific activities
  4. Begin drills, without body contact
  5. Begin drills with Body Contact
  6. Game Play

Some steps require a 1 day wait-time, concussion symptom free, while others require physician clearance.

One Week After the Ice Storm #DarkTO is Almost Over

With a big melt over the last 2 days, much of the ice coating from the Dec 21 storm that left much of Toronto in the dark is gone.

Ice Coated Branches (Click to Enlarge)

The neighbourhood looks less like a war zone, although there are piles of branches and broken tree limbs and a few houses with generators still running.

Hydro Pole & Tree Down at Strath & Prince Edward (Click to Enlarge)

Some of our downspouts are still full of ice.  Not to complain though - we were one of the relatively lucky ones, with power out for about 27 hours.  Toronto Hydro tweeted that 725 customers are still without power today. It's slow work.  Some complicated repairs are taking many hours. Toronto Hydro hopes to have the balance restored by end of today.

Thank you to all who've been working round the clock to getting power back, particularly those from out of town and province.

Ringette Roadshow at Huron Park Community Centre

From the Mississauga News, by Jason Spencer

The Ringette Roadshow visited Huron Park Community Centre on Saturday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the sport. Here, organizer Frances Losier poses with mascots Junior Jacks (left) and Samantha Belle (Photo: Jason Spencer, Mississauga News).
In 1963, North Bay's Sam Jacks invented the game of ringette. The first match was played in the fall of that year in Espanola.

Five decades later, the predominately female sport is thriving in North American and Europe, and Ringette Canada has been spreading the good word about the game.

To mark the sport's 50th anniversary, the organization is touring across the country where it all started with their Ringette Roadshow.

The show — which hits 15 cities in 30 days — finished off its eastern leg at Huron Park Community Centre on Saturday.

Amid the hardest shot competition, where attendees tried their hand at flinging rings into a net, and a dress-up showdown, where pairs of participants raced to see who could put on ringette equipment the fastest, the show's mascots reminded visitors of the sport's heritage.

Dressed in squishy-looking costumes with oversized heads, Samantha Belle and Junior Jacks — a mashup of earlier divisional categories and the name of the game's founder — bumped around the community centre, bringing joy to the youngsters in the crowd.

It was an opportune time for the show to stop by the community centre, as it coincided with a AAA Challenge Cup game on the Huron Park rink. The under-19 ringette players in the game will be going on to compete in the Ontario Winter Games in March.

For the uninitiated, organizer Frances Losier wants those new to the game to know that ringette only looks like hockey.

"It is very similar in that we're on the ice, we've got a five-on-five and a goalkeeper, but in terms of strategy it's closer to soccer, basketball and lacrosse," said Losier.

"In ringette," she explained, "because we have to pass at every blue line, it does become a very team-focussed game; you can't go end-to-end — you can't have one superstar."

"People who don't know about the sport and think that it's another version of hockey, but it's actually harder than you think it is," added Mississauga's Allison Edwards, who's been playing the sport for a decade.

After lighting up the radar gun at the hardest shot station, Edwards' mother, Heather, said, "With the 50th anniversary, we're just trying to put the awareness out there for a lot of the girls, who don't know about ringette."

Heather, a ringette coach, said players can start as early as age 4 and Mississauga has one of the largest ringette scene's in the province.

The Ringette Roadshow picks up in Vancouver on Nov. 2 and ends in Winnipeg on Nov. 7.
